First Assignment: New England Indians in the Sixteenth Century

I will begin the year with the Verrazzano letter to King Francis I of France. I want my students to read primary sources in order to determine the strategic goals of France and other European nations in the early exploration of the Americas. In addition to that, I want them to think about the attitudes Europeans had toward native peoples,and how those attitudes shaped their treatment of native peoples.
